Rooftop system is the largest single-building installation in the State of New Jersey;
solar panels will power nearly 7% of the complexs energy needs
SOUTH KEARNY, NJ River Terminal Development, a subsidiary of Hugo Neu
Corporation, today announced the installation of the largest single-building rooftop solar
power system in the State of New Jersey, capable of producing nearly 7% of the power
supply for the complex located at 100 Central Ave., the former Western Electric facility.
The complex is comprised of 2.4 million Square feet of buildings located on 150 Acres.
The solar power panels for the system were installed on Building 72 of the complex,
located at 100 Central Avenue in South Kearny, New Jersey. The solar panel system consists
of 3,468 modules each capable of producing 175 Watts in 606 Kilowatt (KW) DC current. This
system will harness the suns energy to produce 632,371 Kilowatt hours (KWH) yearly.
We are excited about the use of solar to generate power, without creating any
greenhouse gases. said Robert Neu, River Terminal Development Vice President.
We were obviously interested in the environmental benefits of solar panels, but the
real lesson here is in the economics. It makes good business sense to install solar panels
on buildings due to the enormous energy savings for the next 25 years.
The solar power system will have an environmental impact equivalent to an annual carbon
dioxide emission reduction of 761,346 pounds, the equivalent of removing 154 automobiles
from the road or adding 216 acres of trees. It generates enough power to power
approximately 20 homes.
The system was manufactured by Schott Solar, designed by Solar Design Associates and
installed by Absolutely Energized Solar Electric, Inc.
